"Want to do a quick stress check?"
The question as asked at our booth at the FICCI Indian Pharma Conference. And, it turned out to be one of the most popular booths on the floor.
By the end, we had run 75 assessments across 53 different organizations.
10 simple questions each (the PSS-10, a validated scale used in clinical research for decades). A stress score at the end.
And guess what, leaders and CEOs of companies are quite stressed.
Two-thirds of the leaders walking the floor of a major corporate conference were sitting with moderate-to-high levels of chronic stress.
Here's what surprised me most.
Most people knew their answer before they started. "It's going to be high," half of them laughed before clicking through. People are aware of their stress. They just don't do anything about it.
Then there was the other group. The low-stress crowd. When we asked them why, almost every one of them had a story. They practice mindfulness. They've been through something hard and learned to regulate. They had tools.
Colleges, logistics, pharma, media, industrials. Nobody was immune. Stress does not discriminate, it just shows up in different languages.
And the thing that kept happening, again and again, was people asking if we could talk to their HR. "We need something like this at our company."
Mental health isn't a taboo at the leadership level anymore. It's something people actively want to bring into their workplaces. That was genuinely exciting to see.
Huge shoutout to our team on this. Especially our intern, who vibe-coded built the entire stress assessment tool in just a few days. Our graphic designer for creating the designs for the simple yet attractive booth. And our clinical and HR team was there for every single assessment to help people interpret their results and answer the only question that actually matters.
"Okay, I know my stress level now. What do I do about it?"
For that, we pointed people to simple mindfulness exercises, the right resources, and when needed, professional help.
Being at the conference reminded me that building in mental health isn't always about clinics or sessions. Sometimes it's about 10 questions, a friendly face, and a booth that gives people permission to pause for five minutes and ask themselves how they're doing.
For companies who want to take this further, Emoneeds has a full suite of corporate offerings. Awareness workshops, EAP programs, in-house counselors, psychometric assessments for hiring and promotions, and more.
