🚨 Real-time wildfire updates save lives 🚨

It has obviously been very hard to read about one of the most devastating wildfire seasons in Los Angeles. Among all this, I felt a little relieved knowing that technology is being used to fight this head on.

The Watch Duty app is proving to be a lifeline. Developed by a passionate team of volunteers and engineers, this free app provides accurate, real-time information on wildfires, evacuation zones, air quality, and more—all within seconds.

What sets Watch Duty apart? 📍 No distractions, no ads, no data tracking—just vital information delivered fast. 📍 Built with simplicity and purpose, it doesn't aim to capture your attention but to protect lives. 📍 Powered by volunteers and a lean tech stack, it's an example of what tech-for-good truly looks like.

The app was born out of necessity during the Walbridge fire of 2020. Today, it’s helping millions stay informed, with plans to expand across the U.S. and beyond.

I really admire the founder's perspective - He says “We don’t want you to spend time in the app. You get the information and get out.” Watch Duty's approach revolutionizes how we handle other emergencies—like floods, earthquakes ans snowstorms.

This also reminds me of the time I was volunteering as a product lead at mymizu. We saw a few people going off our platform or deleting our app. When we asked why - A lot of people said that they had developed a sustainable mindset in their daily lives and didn't need the app anymore. This was counterintuitively a great success for us.

That will also be our aim at Emoneeds. Our goal is to make sure each person that takes our service, eventually reaches a stage where they do not need it anymore. 😌
