We could be talking to animals soon π¦
Just read about the Coller Doolittle challenge. Jeremy Coller (chairman of Coller Capital and philanthropist) has just offered $10M to anyone who can develop an AI model that mimics animal communications and is able to engage conversations with animals through an inter species Turing test.
Challenges like these has actually been one of the fastest ways to cut through beauracracy in the field of research and accelerate scientific breakthroughs. These are judged by distinguished University faculty and the passing criteria is very stringent.
Another one that comes to mind is when Google DeepMind solved the Protein Folding Challenge 4 years ago and open sourced their research to unblock massive progress in the field of medicine.
Talking to animals sounds like something straight out of science fiction, but so did spaceflight or internet. I'm super invested to see the results of this challenge.
What else sounds like science fiction that could be possible in the future? Time Travel? Digital Subconsciousness? Flying Cars? Will they finally release GTA 6?
