Can exes still be friends?

Recently I cancelled my paid Medium subscription because I slowly shifted to Twitter and newsletters for my reading.

I was quite surprised and happy to see this cancellation confirmation from them.

From a UX and CS perspective, it shows that they really care about the complete end-to-end experience of their users, even if they decide to stop paying for their services.

This is important because it keeps the door open for future engagement and even if I had a bad experience with their service, I might give them another chance later.

And I completely agree with their last line, I am not a paid member, but I am still part of their platform. I will still be writing my posts there since it's a great writing platform for me. And they will keep generating more content from me which they can push to their other users.

This type of UX can easily be translated to anything, be it an employee leaving your company, or a business going out of the partnership with another, or even human relationships. Having a good closure experience can lead to mutual benefits in the future.
