When you’re sick and tired of the mind numbing, repetitive and unoriginal electronic music that plagues our ears today (I’m looking at you Marshmello and Chainsmokers🤮), let KAYTRANADA be your lord and savior. ⁣ ⁣ Kay (im gonna call him kay from now on), combines synths, drums and with some magic funk dust, creates some GROOOOVY beats. After finding success through Soundcloud, he released his first album 99.9% in 2016, which is still one of the most unique pieces of electronic music I have heard in the past few years, and I could have a whole post about that album, but today I will talk about his new album that dropped last week BUBBA. ⁣ ⁣ BUBBA is a 50 minute vibe. Produced like a seamless DJ set, I didn't realize when one song ended and the other began. With some really great artists on vocals (including @inglewoodsir @kaliuchis, @masego @estelledarlings @goldlink @tinashenow and @pharrell), he uses their voices as an additional element in the music, and that makes sure the focus never goes away from the beat. If you close your eyes and listen to the album, it seems like Kay is playing you a private DJ set, and inviting all his friends to quietly come in, perform a banger and just subtly make way for the next one. It pulls you in and keeps you keeps you engaged and excited, throughout the entire album, and all in all its not just an album, its a complete experience.⁣ ⁣ Another thing I really appreciated was how much he stays true to his Haitian roots. Drums are such an important part of his music, and there is a very distinct Afro influence in this album. Interestingly, each artist (except Kali) that he featured on this album is of African descent, and each is able to bring some flair of their culture on the track enhancing music to another level. ⁣ ⁣ Even though it's hard to single out any track from this album, some of the ones I most look forward to, in the mix are 10% and Vex Oh.⁣ ⁣ Also while you’re at it, definitely check his previous album 99.9% - GOT IT GOOD (ft Craig David), GLOWED UP (ft Anderson.Paak), YOURE THE ONE (ft Syd)⁣ ⁣ A great end to a great year of music. And ill be taking a break form posts as well. See you next year⁣ ⁣ #kaytranada #edm
