Disclosure

For a long time, I was not into house music. In the club yes, its a vibe, but for casual listening, it seemed kind of boring. But now as I slowly start to consume music not just from the perspective of how it sounds, but also from a perspective of how its made as well as its origins and consequential impact in the industry, I have realized, I start to appreciate that type of music on a much more core level. ⁣ ⁣ Disclosure is the perfect example of that. With their debut album, Settle, they paved the way for electronic music to go beyond singles or live DJ sets. They made an album that could be enjoyed from start to finish. Settle was a fresh perspective into UK garage house and electronica, with great sampling, extremely tight drum programming, and strong bass lines and melodic synths to compliment the fast paced tempo they keep in most of their tracks. ⁣ ⁣ Okay enough technical stuff, I think just generally, their music makes you wanna dance, it keeps all the energy levels up, all throughout and provides just enough variety in the songs to keep it fresh, all while have the vibe of deep house. ⁣ ⁣ Then after that they recruit some of the most interesting singing acts from the British electronic scene, and thats such an important skill as producers. They pretty much launched Sam Smith to be as successful as he is with the song 'Latch'. ⁣ ⁣ They were MIA for a bit after that, but they were always still part of the scene by producing some of Khalid's most popular tracks, they even produced a track for Mac Miller on his posthumous album. Then this year, they started releasing some songs which turned into 'Ecstasy' a pure afro-house instrumental EP. That then turned out to be a teaser for their new album 'Energy'. ⁣ ⁣ Their comback was also a great album if you compare it to the average music popular today, but compared to Settle, it lacks the cohesiveness that makes it a good album. I would rather call it a collection of good songs instead. ⁣ ⁣ But that doesn't take away anything from the fact that they are still one of the best electronic music producers in the scene today. The effort and creativity the put into it shows very clearly.
