Hello good sirs and maams and everyone in between! Do you have a moment to talk about Kimi no na wa? Of course you do. More popularly known as "Your Name", I would say, simply put, this is the best anime movie of our generation.Yes I know Spiderverse and Coco also exist, but hear me out - Why did I say that? Each element of this movie stands out on its own, and all coming together is much greater than the sum of its parts. ⁣ ⁣ Within the first minute, you are sucked into the beautiful depiction of Makoto Shinkai’s Japan. You get to live the daily lives of Japanese students. You get to experience walking on the streets of Tokyo without ever leaving your seat. The animation itself is breathtaking, its exciting and expansive. Surreal is an understatement to describe it. If you haven’t been to Japan, it will make you want to visit and if you live in Japan like me, you won’t want to leave. ⁣ ⁣ The music alone is enough to make you cry, but it holds a special meaning once you have seen the movie. Radwimps is a Japanese Pop-Rock band that outdid themselves for this, cementing themselves as one of the best acts to come out of Japan and become world famous. ⁣ ⁣ It's very hard for me to explain the story or give a summary without giving away any of the plot points, what I will say is, it's a unique twist to a traditional love story. The flow of events is confusing at first, its a sacrifice Shinkai has to make to allow the later payoff to have its intended effect. But never does that stop you from being invested in the characters. ⁣ ⁣ This movie truly is an emotional roller coaster. It is anxiety inducing in the best way possible, and I personally was holding my breath for some of the scenes, because I was afraid even my breathing would affect this delicate storyline in a way I don’t want. ⁣ ⁣ This movie is very precious to me, and I will keep watching it till the end of my life. I’m so happy to know that Japanese Anime, is still at the forefront of pure stories from the time of Ghibli. ⁣ ⁣ Shinkai has a new movie this year called Tenka No Ko (Weathering with you) and its about rain in Tokyo. Rain is personally very special to me, and I can’t wait to watch it.
