This is a stan post for three individuals, who for lack of a better word, are the BIG DADDYS of instrument focused music. I really respect the musicians who are able to produce their own music, but these guys just take it to another level. It wasn’t enough that they know how to play tons of instruments professionally? But they also compose the melodies, produce the beat, arrange it all using different equipment and software, write and sing the song, go on to perform these songs live from scratch, do a damn good job at it, and still have time and brain space to eat and sleep? It is not fathomable to me AT ALL. Talking about the style and context of the type of music they make. With the infusion of jazz into the soul of their songs, they have molded their music to be relevant and popularly accepted in today’s soundscape. Adding the lo-fi beat elements to their songs makes it simply ear candy. But if we go more in-depth into each of these artists, with some things in common, they have each carved out an interesting place for themselves within this niche itself. Tom Misch is your typical everyday british bloke, but put a guitar in his hand, and he will carry you into his world of blissful blues and jazzy guitar riffs and mellow beats that serve as a backdrop for his laid back vocals. FKJ, aka French Kiwi Juice, is a one-man orchestra who uses software to loop his instrumentals to create vibey music that can be played everywhere from beaches to a coffee house. Watching him do his thing is a complete delight, and you can see the amount of passion and urgency he puts behind his music. And finally, Masego, who just embodies class in his playing and his Jamaican influence brings in that funk into his music, which makes you want to move, to his smooth as butter rap and r&b vocals. If they ever do a live show in your city, YOU HAVE TO GO ASAP. Until then enjoy them as enhancements to your playlists.
