Yaeji, Peggy Gou and Park Hye Jin

Music has always been one of the most important aspects of cultural history and an irreplaceable complement to the art of dancing. Asia has one of the most vibrant music culture, especially since a lot of the roots of music come from the different types of folk dances from the historical periods in the different regions. The sheer variety of musical instruments and their use to create a multi-form art is something that has transcended history. ⁣ ⁣ Electronic dance music allows us to use instruments in ways we never thought about before and create music for people to dance. In a way we could say the EDM and its sub-genres will become an important part of our cultural history today. Only a few concepts in this world have the power to gather hundreds of thousands of people in one location in pure harmony. ⁣ ⁣ EDM although originated in Europe, has found its way back to Asia, but it keeps evolving as the local culture starts to fuse with the international. ⁣ ⁣ And that's why today I want to talk about some artists who channel both their western and asian influences into creating dreamy, trance music. ⁣ ⁣ Yaeji, Peggy Gou and Park Hye Jin, all three amazing Korean female producers. Finding their sound under the same umbrella of dreamy, dark techno, with Korean/English vocals/rap. Each of them have managed to carve out a niche within that genre. ⁣ ⁣ Peggy Gou is a serious DISCO VIBE. Taking it old school, with her Korean vocal fused funky rhythms and drums. ⁣ ⁣ Yaeji takes more of a mellow trance rapper path, creating some really fluid melodies and korean/english vocals rapping/singing on them to create this dreamy atmosphere to dance to. ⁣ ⁣ Park Hye Jin is new on the block but she didnt waste any time finding her sound in a dark trap techno sound. With fast tempo urgency in hers songs, sampling some aggressive Korean ad libs and repetitive verses that act as great fillers. ⁣ ⁣ Not only producing though, they are equally competent DJs, mixing sets on some of the biggest stages of the world, along with maintaining a brand and persona that always shows their cultural identity clearly. ⁣ ⁣ They are great role models for the Asian music scene.
